Sorry to correct you but it does.

I have still a couple of 8i instances and I installed the 10g agents on those machines being now able to administer them via grid control.

For the OP: you need one 10g agent for any machine you wish to monitor/administer.
9i and 8i agents are not compatible with grid control since they are based on snmp traps where 10g uses xml and html.

I haven't got 8.0.x instances but I fear it doesn't work with 10g.
