You are not alone. In fact the demand for this information, even among senior DBAs and seasoned pros is so great we are holding a workshop at Oracle Day 2005 in Seattle on just this subject.

I am not aware of any book or publications that aren't from a vendor so my suggestion would be to hit one or more vendor sites and download their White Papers.
