Disagree with the first. Agree with that last.

Funny how many posts there are in this group where people just plain didn't follow the install guide wrt kernel parameters. For the less experienced, it isn't so easy to identify kernel shortfalls.
My 15 years of unix/oracle (plus a decade of other R db and os stuff before that) has taught me to "Follow the @#$%@ directions!" Of course, sometimes the directions are wrong... http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=91884734.0305301447.59ea6f35%40posting.google.com&output=gplain so one must maintain a critical eye and understand what is supposed to be happening.
