Import and export may take a ages of time.
I wonder if it's possible, shut down the 8.1.7 instance, do a full backup,
install a blank 9.2.0.4 and just move all the data files of 8.1.7,
including init.ora and controlfiles, etc
replacing those from 9.2.0.4 and then start up 9.2.0.4 database ?
But I think, upgrade method its better and safe for it.
