  1. This is an AIX question, and has nothing to do with Oracle. To take a backup of the system/root image (i.e. the "rootvg" volume group), you need to have the command "mksysb" run. Ask your sys admin to do it, as it can sometime be tricky. Smitty can also be used to do the backup (look under "System Storage Management"). That doesn't include the non-system files (which should be stored in other volume groups, such as "oraclevg", "datavg", or whatever). They can also be backed up (using "savevg", or smitty).
