switching logs

Hi all!
I have found a dba faq explaining how to switch and recreate larger redo logs.
That's it:

``create logs 5-8
``switch to log 5
``drop logs 1-4

now my question is: how to issue these commands? (I refer to these `` characters) via sql-plus ?
or some other parameter files ?
