We run a couple of E4000s that were upgraded to E4500s with the 400MHz chip. That is old equipment ... came out in something like 96. You may be good with just a V880 and 8 CPUs. We use the V880 for several database servers with great results with the Ultrasparc III and 750MHz on some and 900MHz others. We use local Sun T3 RAID arrays and you might be good with these too. I am not familiar with pricing of a 12K , but I suspect it is at least 2 - 5 times more expensive than a V880.
