I'm an Oracle novice and I would appreciate any assistance. I'm having a
problem with an "ORA-01033 ORACLE initializatoin or shutdown in progress"
when I try to log into any instance. The database was working fine and then
simply wouldn't let me log in. The version is Oracle 8i. This is not a
mission critical database so if necessary I can could simply reinstall
Oracle but I would like to know how to handle this problem. I have read
several older posts about this problem but I don't see any solutions. Could
somebody please help with what is causing this error message and how to fix
it.
