select -> end-of-communication part 2

thanks to your suggestions i have gone through all dump paths and fount that there were multiple files created in a relevant time, but all with 0 length,
any ideas how to track the cause of this sittuation?

The histrory:
weird thing happens on 8.1.6:
select * from table x causes end-of-comm... while
select trim(col_a), trim(col_b)... works fine cols are varchar2
