No problem -- just copy the files to the target server & boot the newly-cloned 8.1.6 database in the 8.1.7 ORACLE_HOME. Then simply treat this as you would a normal DB upgrade -- see the Release Notes for upgrading an 8.1.6 DB to 8.1.7 (on Solaris you just execute a script called U0801060.sql which is in $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin -- but check your platform-specific docs.) This should work fine -- after all, this is how you upgrade DBs under normal circumstances.
