RAM. Have a lot of it. And swap too.

I managed to install Oracle9i on a machine with 128MB of RAM and 512MB of swap.

I didn't select the java options, the spatial options and most of the enterprise options but still I only had ~60MB free swap left during the installation.

Also, if you are low on RAM/swap do not choose to create a database from the installation program. dbassist seems to require a lot of RAM too and the combined requirements of runInstaller and dbassist hosed my server on my first attempt to install.
