Oracle Mirroring

Hi Fellow DBAs,

I've been recently appointed as ORACLE DBA and I could not find any documentation/utility
of how to implement mirroring. I'm a former Informix 9.2 DBA, and in that product I could specify what raw chunk (data file in ORACLE lingo) in disk A is mirrored by a corresponding raw chunk in disk B. That gave me much control on the distribution of table and log data across disk partitions and controllers.

Is mirroring in ORACLE is completely external to the product (handled by operating system or storage sub-system), or is it a package I can purchase from ORACLE or third party ?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
