What we do is copy files more than a day old to another directory and compress them every night. We have a special tape for those logs that also runs a little bit later, and then they are deleted after four days. This way, we have plenty of space, and all of our logs for the last two weeks are either on tape, or on the box. The filesystem is mirrored as well. We've never needed 2 weeks of archive logs but we have needed a couple of days. By all means.. make absolutely sure you can get your old archive logs.. if there's one thing about a recovery that can be a real show-stopper, it's a missing archive log. If you're missing one, there's absolutely nothing you can do to recover past that point.. Whatever strategy you use, test,test,test.. make sure you can get those logs..
