7.0 has true row level locking now. I think you are think along the
lines of 6.5 and you would be right to make all of the statements you
have made. Look at the spec sheet for 7.0 and maybe download the trial
version and fire it up. Its like the diffs between 7.3 and 8i. SQL
Server 7.0 is a brand new engine with only compatibility left. MS
hired some of the best engine builders in the field to make this one.
They made it very scalable (as long as NT can scale that far.)
