Quite true. One thing that particularly worries me in NT is the tremendous amount of stuff that is kept in a hard to work with format: the registry. There are heaps of stuff that can only be truly controlled by having to fire up the editor. And then it's all bets off.
I rather prefer the UNIX method of text-based config files (with so many comments that most of the time you don't need a manual). Change the file, re-init the daemon and you're away.
With NT, it's allways a toss if you changed the right parameter. The registry is remarkably poorly documented. And having to re-boot 99.9999% of the time after even trivial changes doesn't help at all.
It really has nothing to do with a GUI-based admin or not. A GUI can be slapped on as effectively over the NT registry as over the UNIX text files.
