Moving from Data from v6 to v8

I have a Client that would like to move the data from a redundant system that uses Oracle 6 on some HP OS to an archive that they could query from time to time. I thought that Personal Oracle might be a good platform because if I can export the tables (100+) in one command, and import into the Personal Oracle (8) I would achieve max compatibility and minimum time / cost. They could them use Access or Crystal to create reports etc as required (they not being very Oracle literate).

Does anyone have any knowledge / experience as to whether I can do this? I am particularly concerned about compatibility of the export / import formats. Oracle tell me that I have to upgrade through each Oracle version - surely not!!
