We did it for "fast refresh" snapshot. Our problem was the very first update ( to copy a lot of data through very bad comm. link ) - it was interrupted each time and we had to restart the job. Our 'cheating' solved that problem.
I'm not sure if your 'cheat' is better than mine, but probably you must try it - if it works - then it's fine.

P.S. Think positive - such an expensive product does not limit your

     need to improvization.
