I have installed and tested Oracle 8.0.5 on NT, Solaris and Linux and here is what I have found out:

  1. The server response on a Solaris/Linux is far more better than that on NT.
  2. NT some times freezes ( reasons Unknown, Event viewer doesn't log anything.!! ) under serious loads ( especially during bulk loads ).
  3. Compaq Deskpro 233/64M + Linux 2.2 [ My Desktop ] >>>>>> Compaq 266/128M + NT + Hot swappable h/w conf + lot of MS Crap accessories.

My Suggestion: Go for any Un*x ( my preferences solaris/linux/sco ) and get peace of mind.,
That what I have found out.
