    It is better to set the 'compatibility' to the same level of your software (i.e. 7.3.3).

    Try to shutdown abort the database first (i.e. svrmgrl> shutdown abort)

    I think there may have an 'rc' command which try to startup the database when rebooting the system. Go and check your 'oratab' file and make sure that the last parameter is 'N'

e.g.

sid:/oracle/home:N

Check it to see whether it help you or not.
