If you lose your redologs, the instance will crash. How will crash recovery complete on restart if your redologs are gone? Loss of all online redologs is a situation that requires recovery from backup. That's why it is a good idea to mirror them or "multiplex" as Oracle likes to call it. Even with archivelog mode on, you will only be archived up to the log before the current one.
Also, even if you have all your redologs, archived and online, you will need a copy of the datafiles from some point in time, from which to recover forward.
