In your TNSNAMES.ORA file, on the "HOST =" line, does it refer to the IP address of UNIXA, your database server, or does it refer to an alias for UNIXA?

If it refers to an alias, is that alias in your HOSTS file on UNIXB, your unix client machine?

It may be that an alias is being used, that alias is in the hosts file on all your PC's, but not in the hosts file on your unix box.
