Unable to access views

Hi,

   When I try to access views like USER_TABLES, etc. on 8.0.3 (as a user with dba

   priveleges) I get the error "ERROR: ORA-04043: object user_tables does not exist"

   but if I qualify that with SYS.USER_TABLES I am able to access the views fine. I

   have run the script catalog.sql as "sys" but that did not seem to help. I am sure that
  I must be doing something wrong but what ???
