It has plently of bugs and I hesitate to recommend it yet. I would recommend 8.0.5 as an interim solution until Oracle has produced a more stable version of 8i (on all platforms). Just beware - Oracle's installation instructions doesn't quite work. It took me almost 15 reinstallations and some hunting on the web to finally install it sucessfully.

If your boss is concerned about performance then MySQL is still the fastest of the crop. It does so by not supporting any kind of transactions, which removes a lot of overhead. But if your site does perform inserts and updates against the database, I would recommend Oracle or some other database with transaction support. Received on Wed Sep 15 1999 - 09:39:06 CDT
