Interesting in switching to software developer role from DBA

Hi Dear Listers,
I have been working as a DBA for past 16 years and beginning to feel I really enjoy coding more and more . I am interested to move to software developer role full time. Moving to cloud architect roles is not something which excites me a lot.
For those of you who did this move or thought about it . Can you please suggest your thoughts/experience in doing this transition?
