Thanks Rajesh, I checked and one of the Links (337737.1) says The Oracle Grid Infrastructure (GI) /Clusterware (CRS) version must be of the highest version down to the 4th digit in the possible combinations at all times. This means, you have to upgrade Oracle Grid Infrastructure / Clusterware first. * The 5th digit does not have to be greater and can be excluded from these version considerations. So does that mean that as PSU patch only update the last Fifth digit we can continue with only PSU patch to RDBMS home and not to GI Sanjay On Thursday, January 30, 2014 10:25 AM, Rajesh Aialavajjala <r.aialavajjala_at_gmail.com> wrote: Sanjay,  Oracle recommends that in a Grid Infrastructure environmetn - that GI patches be applied to both the GI and RDBMS ORACLE_HOMEs' ...  Which Patch Needs to be Applied to Which Home in GI/CRS and RAC Environment (Doc ID 1474914.1) FAQ: OPatch/Patch Questions/Issues for Oracle Clusterware (Grid Infrastructure or CRS) and RAC Environments (Doc ID 1339140.1) Of course - there can be exceptions - as occurred w/ the January 2014 Critical Patch Update....where there was no 11.2.0.4 GI PSU <this may not apply in the case you're mentioning since your e-mail states the highest version is 11.2.0.3>  Will there be a Grid Infrastructure (GI) PatchSet Update (PSU) 11.2.0.4.1 (Jan 2014)? I thought ASM should be same or higher version that RDBMS. In one of the existing client, I saw patches are only applied to RDBMS and never to GI. There is no other reason except look like anyone never looked to it and follow the standard going on. Current version is 11g 2( 11.2.0.1-11.2.0.3). > > >So if someone share any Oracle metalink docs or suggestion as what is best practices and why? Greatly appreciate it. > > >TIA >Sanjay >
