If you can't succeed with kfod i think that the only left option is really what Rui suggested: truss/other trace tool. That may lead to a very time-consuming job analyzing traces and conclusions will be hard to take, i'd say.

If MISSING does not exists in R1, you can also try OP=all status=TRUE
verbose=TRUE, but at this point i really have no sure if you can get the
desired result.
Maybe someone can help you, without analysing traces :-)
