Indeed you donīt need real time apply.

You need to create standby redologs and configure: log_archive_dest_2="SERVICE=STBY reopen=30 DELAY=180 OPTIONAL NOAFFIRM LGWR ASYNC"

this way you will send the data to remote standby redologs AND online redologs at same time and you donīt have data loss.

Data in standby redo logs will be applied on standby database when DELAY time expires. It will be applied immediatly if you have real-time-apply.

Note that redo-transport and redo-apply are independent jobs.

Why not use real-time apply instead? Then you don’t need to be concerned about log switches. For more info:

Disclaimer: I’ve never used real-time apply myself, but am in the process of setting it up for the first time right now. If anyone has any reasons why it should not be used, please let me know.

Thanks,
Brandon
