Does anybody experience that if I need to create the Partition for OCR/Voting on AIX, it has to be part of Volume group and if the disk is part of Volume group which can be one disk in Volume Group then its PVID can;t be none and thus violates the RAC requirement to have PVID to be none. I know Solaris is not an issue where we have to do a partition so as leave the block 0 to avoid loss of the device at reboot and used the new partitioned slice but Never check it in AIX.

SA menitoned that it is not possible and so we need to go with all 50G Luns each for OCR/Voting which will be not wastage of 250G space but also can impact IO/backup.

Any AIX environment which has experience the same.

Sanjay

Cheng

So can it be used for OCR/Voting.
Can I have multiple Partition like if I have 3 Physical Luns, then I can have 1OCR and 1Voting from one LUN and same from second and 1 voting from Third. or
I need to have 5 Physical Lun and create one partition from each and leave rest of the space intact

TIA
Sanjay

You can use AIX's LVM to create smaller partitions

Thanks

I had to build a 10g RAC where I got 50G OCR/Voting Disk Physical Luns from SAN team with the note that they cannot carved anything less than that in SAN. Is it possible that I can create 1G Partition from each of them and use them so that I can back them easily especially Voting Disk or so. Environment is AIX. If anybody can share the experience. Using Physical LUN as it is not an issue. It is EMC storage.
