Paula,

First of all, you have my sympathies.

  1. Do you have any other copies of the archive log in question?
  2. Basically the way recovery works is you recover a backup and then apply archive logs to bring the instance up to date. If you recovered your most recent backup and then applied archive logs, you are basically stuck where you got to. It sounds like you may lose a few hours of transactions. Recovering an older backup won't help you because you'll eventually have to apply that same archive log, and that is where you'll stop.
