This is only a thought,

Talking previously with other dbas, if there would be other certifications on oracle, could be a way to help recruiters to find the better dba, and a way to hundreds of dba to improve, or certify their skills. You have currently the ocp certification in the beggining(accessible), and the master certification in the other extreme (not so cheap). I think if there would be other certifications through prometric like

  1. ocp database enterprise certification, guaranteeing you can install and give maintenance to a enterprise database.(at least)
  2. ocp advanced mantenance, all hte advanced topics of maintenance from tuning to database administrations.
  3. ocp database advanced plsql, etc. guaranteeing you really know all about plsql, not simple the basics. etc.

Testing really advanced skills.

Then you get that 3 or 10 exams and you get an OCM, this is instead a BIG ocm certification, a few certifications will help recrutiers to know how much a dba knows, will help dbas to improve their skills, and everyone will be benefited.

Because once you get your ocp, unless you get the money to get an ocm, or to take a course on oracle university; you are always an ocp, and is very difficult to recruiters to certify how good is or isn't a dba.

For people who have the opportunity to have a lot of experience in big database and get the tutoring of senior dbas, there is no problem, but even for them
the oportunity to show this knowledge in a certification will help to get better jobs.
And for people who works in small database like me, and really don't have a lot of problems to learn from, is a way to grwo professionaly and prepare for a better job.

:)
