I saw dozens of responses to my question. I didn't see any that answered the question.

What is the difference between Intel and x86? How do I know which version of Oracle to order?

Ron,

x86-64 is for 64 bit AMD chips, and whatever Intel comes up with (real soon now) in the 64 bit chip that runs 32 bit code natively. Something other than Itanium :roman_numeral.

This kind of stuff if real handy (x86-64), like when testing RHEL 3.0 ES on an HP DL585 and there is no 64 bit driver for the integrated RAID controller. Could install the 32 bit version, or uncable the drive bay from the integrated RAID controller and go with just plain SCSI, cross fingers and hope.

As we all know, there is nothing in the Oracle world (production releases) for Linux on PPC. Oracle has announced such things in the past for 8.1.6, 8.1.7 and 9.2, but never actually shipped it. Any Mac advocacy site is just spewing FUD until it actually shows up in Metalink under "Certifiability and Availability" as "Shipping".
