All,

I recently became aware that Oracle can have a DEGREE value (for example, for parallelism in DBA_INDEXES) of 'DEFAULT'. (To my embarrassment, this value makes one of my one-liner scripts in my book return an error, since it does not convert to a number.) You can achieve this value at index-creation time with the clause:

 parallel (DEGREE DEFAULT)

Have any of you ever actually used this? What's it good for?

Thanks,

Dan Tow
