So, what is app server doing? That is the problem with 3-tier applications: you have 3 layers of possible failure. If oracle isn't doing anything, then the database performance is OK. Let me guess: users are calling DBA and saying that the database is slow. You should tell them that the database isn't doing anything , and is doing that blindingly fast. You have httpd processes on the app server, ~10M memory each, which isn't enough to cause memory shortage. You can have a bug in the app server, network problem, incorrect configuration, any number of things. What app server are you using, and do you have support? Do you have any tool to profile the application execution and see where the application is waiting? is
