Hi,
I did something similiar before. It cound be meaningful in some case. My database was io-bound and top wait event was "log file sync". It can because of too much commit, I asked business guys and according to there data and business logic, there cound't be so much transactions. I reviewed statspack and v$sql according to executions and sql being with update/insert/delete, I found the root cause, that particular SQL generated 80%(maybe) of total commits. We rewrote the application and IO get down.
Regards.
