Does that mean that you don't use Perl on Windows, or don't use windows at
all?
If you do, can you give us an idea of what your set up is, please.

It ain't that simple. The DBD::Oracle for Perl 5.8 needs to be compiled with 5.8 libs.
ActiveState is letting it go by the wayside. They do not have a
DBD::Oracle that
is installable with 5.8.
Even installing on 5.6.1 is a hack, you can't just load it from PPM anymore.
There was one at xmlproj.com, but the owner of that domain has gone incommunicado.
