Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> how to estimate the size of the aggregates in a DW environment
Hi.
I'm looking for a ballpark estimate of a size of
aggregates for a DW. I have estimates for the sizes of
the tables. I know what agregation will be needed
(daily, weekly, monthly) and for how long the
aggregate data will be retained. I'm struggling though
with estimating the number of rows in an aggregate
table. The base tables will have data on a half-hourly
level. I thought that I would divide the number of
rows by 48 to get to a daily aggregate. But that will
assume that I will have the same key data througout
the month - the same users, the same products etc. And
this is not likely to be the case. Is there other
approach I can use in this situation?
thanks
Gene
