Yes, I think the main advantage of the method I described is that you
can do
it on a per-application basis. Oracle seemed rather proud of it, so I
thought I should mention it. If you don't need the per-application
feature,
it sounds like the other method is a LOT simpler.

There is a way to do this in 8i w/o fine-grained access control. You
setup
a configuration file that you reference in your listener.ora - I
swear!

Can somebody help me on this question ?
I have a db server with ip address, say ip1 and an application server
with ip address say, ip2 ?
Can I say in my Oracle db server that I will accept only the
connections from ip2 ? ( some sort firewall rule)
