Agreed.

If you restore from a cold backup to a different server, you don't need to restore online redologs if you did a "shutdown/shutdown immediate". A "resetlogs" will create the new logs for you. If you did a shutdown abort (or any other abnormal shutdown), like kill -thingy), you will need the redologs for startup, on a *different* server or $ORACLE_SID

However as Jared pointed out, resetlogs is something I would like to avoid as well -- reason being to avoid having to do a full backup again before you let users loose on the system.

On the same production system, backup (and restore) of online redologs can cause a lot of damage, and that is the gist of my message.

Bottom line remains that there is an understanding of the basic issues, and you don't need a week to argue over it.
