It would probably be more appropriate to say, the usefulness of such a file
is questionable.

The online log you are backing up might be the current log that is being
written to while you are backing it up. Oracle can use logs to straighten
out a data block that is being modified at the same time you are copying it
to a backup. But oracle can't do that with online logs. You would need
logs for the logs. Then you would wonder about backing up the logs for the
logs. Which means you would need logs for the logs for the logs ....
