RE: Index rebuild vs. coalesce

Peter - Just quoting the Oracle Education notes:

Rebuild - quickly moves the index to another tablespace.

• Requires more disk space (current index, new index)
• Creates a new tree, shrinks the height if it can.
• Lets you change the storage parameters without having to drop and create the index.

Coalesce - can't move to another tablespace.

• Doesn't require any more disk space.
• Simply coalesces leaf blocks within the same branch of the tree.
