I remember in Linux, you may have to use a different tree rc2.d or
rc1.d. Also, you can do it in a single startup file, not sure of the
name.

Right shell? I discovered some time ago by doing the mistake that all the 'boot' scripts had better be written in Bourne shell, and that ksh didn't work when called in the early stages of the boot ...
