You could put /var/opt/oracle or whatever it is on your system on an NFS mounted drive and then symbolically link to local storage to get the orainst.loc to be local to the machine.

Hey guys-Need some thoughts and information.....  

Is there anyway to isolate the orainst.loc file to each specific Oracle installation on a box? In other words; is there a way to isolate that into each $ORACLE_BASE or $ORACLE_HOME?? I can handle the orainventory file with Oracle 9i; but I'm trying to avoid the "common file per server" syndrome in our infrastructure.
