What platform? On Unix the database is really looking at the inode of the file which did not change. What you'd have to do is bounce Oracle to get it to fail.

Hi all:

I have been testing backups against Oracle9 db. I have renamed a datafile from file.dbf to file.dbf2. Then I ran a checkpoint expecting it to fail, but it didn't. I have done that several time without getting any warning from checkpoint. I though that checkpoint should 'touch" all the datafile and notice that one of them is missing. am I wrong?
