I don't think existing versions of 8i and 9i would work with AIX 5L.
There is a separate Oracle software distribution for 8i(32-bit) and 9i(64-bit) for AIX 5L.
To use 8i and 9i on the same server, the h/w be 64-bit compatible and OS must be booted in 32-bit mode. 64-bit 9i can operate in 32-bit mode.
There is plenty of information available on Metalink to guide you in this respect.

I am about to upgrade my AIX box from AIX 4.3.3 to AIX 5
Currently have 8.1.7 (32 bit) and 9.2(64 bit) installed on the box.
Will these versions run after the upgrade, assuming we run AIX 5 with 32 bit kernal?
