Yes, there is a Legato media manager that comes with Oracle and allows
RMAN to write to tape directly. However, if your site is using a
central backup system or specific Legato features (maybe the cataloging
system, but I forget the details), you need to purchase a more advanced
module for Oracle. For our systems, this was going to run around
$10,000 +/- , so we opted to write rman files to disk and get them to
take during the nightly system backup.
