Searching Metalink for "firewall" turns up several useful documents (e.g. notes 131524.1 and 125021.1). The Oracle Connection Manager may be worth exploring.

Just wondering how NMCI handles web page access. Also, a Citrix Terminal Server (next to the database server) may be a possibility for client/server (especially over a WAN).
