And forget about gsd and srvctl - that stuff has nothing to do with
RUNNING the database (but has to do with e.g. software install). Also,
the parameter is cluster_database=false, parallel_server was for OPS
back in Oracle8i, which (as everybody knows:-) is completely different
from RAC.
In the end, all you need to do is to startup single instance (cluster_database=false) in mount mode while you do the rename.
