Les - I think the demand isn't so good right now, but the whole tech field
is a little depressed. If you can tell a little more about your background,
we could help more, like whether this sounds like a logical next career step
for you. The demand varies a lot by the area of the country, so research
that. Also, find some companies you would like to work for and try to get an
informational interview and see what type of background they would hire.
They may suggest a different entry point for their organization. Also, to
your point of which route to get certified, they both lead to the same
point. The 8i route gives you a little more flexibility in case you find
some organization that has a pointy-haired HR person that has a requisition
that says "Oracle8i OCP" and tosses all resumes that don't say that
specifically. But there may be more important differences between these two
institutions, like which one is a closer commute. ;-)

Hello,
I'm thinking of going to school to get Oracle certified. There are 2 schools in my area that are offering Oracle certs but one offers Oracle 8i courses w/ an upgrade to 9i, while the other offers all 9i courses. If i go to the schools who offers 9i courses, would I miss out on valuable 8i knowledge? Which school should I attend? The courses will last about 7 or 8 months. Also, is this a good "in demand" field to get into? What chances am I looking at to getting hired as a newbie DBA once I graduate?
I want to get into the Ecommerce side of Oracle (connecting DBs to websites/portals?). Which certification/path should I be following? Thanks in advance!!
