he can also try to force the database open by rebuilding the
controlfile and doing a resetlogs. Since he's already lost the online
logs, resetlogs won't cause him to lose anything anyway.
last time this happened to me, it took about 25 hours straight, lots of
money and Data UnLoader from Field support to recover the database. But
my management didn't want to go back to an export that was 12 hours
old... so it was worth it to them to pay.
