8.1.7.2
Is there a short list of steps for a successful RMAN install and ramp up under Legato in the final phase.
I'm looking at a server with about 4-6 databases on it. We're basically looking at the following:
Create RMAN database.
Create test area for disk first, then tape as we put it under Legato.
Determine which databases are supposed to be HOT(nothing archivelog now)
Test backup, clone to test area, maybe more than one.
On the test area, drop a datafile or two, and restore the database.
On "hot test" drop a datafile and restore.
I had "table restore" on there but see RMAN is more like a "better" hot backup, and getting a table can be a bit of a challenge, but we've got exports in place and can do many other things as well.
I've got Robert's book, but need to understand the "clone" process for hot and non hot backup database clones. This also may be a better way to "copy prod to test" which I've been doing with export/import.
Like Rachel, always loved my scripts, but customer bought Legato (needing RMAN) and I want to make sure configuration is SOUND... As we have said, **I** will be responsible to restore any of the databases and need to know everything is "perfect" concerning the setup and execution.
Maks.
